The Company Aflac The Location Columbus, GA The Division U.S. Financial Planning & Analysis The Opportunity Senior U.S. Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst Job Summary As part of the U.S. Financial Planning and Analysis team, creates, reviews, and analyzes budgets for assigned business units; ensures expenses are managed within their approved budgets; advises assigned groups on compliance, regulatory policies and requirements related to budgets; develops and provides reports for review and decision making by key stakeholders Principal Duties & Responsibilities Consolidates and analyzes financial data (budgets, forecasts etc.), develops financial models, and uses industry/financial benchmarks to support the review and decision making by key stakeholders; performs analysis and provides reporting by understanding and considering project, department, divisional, and company's goals Serves as point of contact for business units; acts as a department liaison and a financial liaison for internal departments Prepares meaningful variance analyses of actual versus forecasted financial performance Assists in the development of budgets and reviews for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives Develops and provides appropriate reports and metrics to support informed decision making; continuously reviews, recommends and implements improvements that will increase the value of reports for management Reviews and analyzes budget expenses for compliance and regulatory issues; corrects account and budget center postings; prepares, reviews, and reconciles expenses; advises about availability of funds and proper usage of funds Prepares monthly forecasts; prepares month to date, quarter to date, and year to date variance explanations; conducts meetings with leaders of assigned groups to discuss and review budget reports; provides recommendations for reclassification of expenses and variances May track, audit and analyze incentive fund expenses; provides advice about availability of funds and eligible expenses for incentive funds Performs ad-hoc financial modeling to support the strategic planning process and potential projects Evaluates financial effectiveness of new programs by comparing results with original proposals Assist in training and mentoring other less experienced analysts as a part of their development and cross training Assists assigned groups with budget software and technical issues; provides system training for staff as needed Travels as needed Recommends improvements to processes and procedures to streamline activities, enhance service turnaround time, improve productivity, and improve quality; continuously improves internal financial reporting and analysis Performs other related duties as assigned Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, mathematics or a related field with 5 years of professional job-related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Insurance industry experience preferred Job Knowledge & Skills Must possess strong knowledge of budgeting and expense management Highly organized and motivated with strong analytical and critical thinking abilities Ability to work without close supervision Demonstrates good judgment, high integrity and sound decision-making skills Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with ability to articulate and understand complex issues Ability to effectively communicate with different areas/levels within the organization Proficient in Microsoft Office with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Must be able to work independently under deadline pressure with competing priorities, and must be willing to work outside of normal office hours as required Knowledge and experience using ERP systems (preferably SAP) in order to assist assigned groups and other analysts Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other federal regulations relative to Sales Financial issues, state insurance department statutes, and other state regulations Understanding of business fundamentals and an understanding of quantitative business-based analysis and metrics Knowledge of accounting procedures and familiarity with IRS regulations Provides solutions instead of problems Challenges the status quo with the courage to take an unpopular stance Core Competencies Action Oriented, Customer Focus, Adaptability, Listening, Ethics and Values, Integrity and Trust Functional Competencies Business and Financial Acumen, Composure, Decision Quality, Functional/Technical Skills, Presentation Skills, Problem Solving, Time Management, Written Communications and Learning on the Fly The Benefits Aflac is known for treating our employees exceptionally well.
