Role:Job SummaryThe Trauma Registrar's primary responsibility is
for Trauma Registry data abstraction and input. This includes such
activities as identification of patients meeting Registry inclusion
criteria, chart abstraction, AIS and ICD-9 coding, and data entry.
The Trauma Registrar primarily works 8:30 - 5:00 pm, but hours may
vary based on the needs of the department. Minimum Job
Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications:
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum two (2) years previous experience
in the healthcare field, including knowledge of medical
terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-9 coding, chart
abstraction and data collection.
- Other: Preferred Job Qualifications
- Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Certified
Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) within two (2) years of
certification eligibility.

supervision or minimal group interaction
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, i.e., FAX, copier
and printer Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
- Trauma Registry. Utilizes the Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma
criteria, ICD-9 codes, and diagnoses to identify patients requiring
inclusion into the Trauma Registry. Initiates medical record
abstraction within 48 hours of trauma patient admission and
completes Registry record in a timely manner as defined by the
trauma PIPS plan. Abstracts all pertinent patient information
required by the registry including but not limited to,
demographics, pre-hospital, ED, inpatient, diagnoses,
co-morbidities, complications and procedures. Enters all required
patient data into the Trauma Registry. Determines each patient's
AIS, ISS and ICD-9 codes based on anatomic and physiologic data in
the medical record. Completes 80% of trauma records within 60 days
of patient discharge. Assures all registry data is complete and
accurate prior to submitting to supervisor for review and final
submission of reports to required regulatory agencies. Creates
basic reports, charts and graphs not requiring advanced Registry
knowledge. Participates in State trauma activities, meetings and
conferences at the request of the supervisor or Service Line
Director.
- Education and Training. Completes 2 courses within first 12
months of hire including AAAM Scaling course and ATS Registry
course or equal. Completes at least 8 hours of continuing education
related to Registry per year.Helps educate new TACS staff about the
Trauma Registry. Helps educate staff in other departments about the
Trauma Registry and other trauma patient identification processes
at the discretion of the TACS Director or Operations Manager.
- Administrative Support. Actively participates in TACS PI
initiatives and staff meetings. Physical Demands
