Analyzes insurance data and defines important key performance indicators (KPIs). Assists Risk Manager in the preparation of quantitative loss data reports for trending and safety analysis. Assists the Risk Manager in designing analysis to utilize loss data to provide timely reports to management. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports, loss comparisons and graphs on loss experience and costs. Highlights data-related, technical or organization issues for resolution. Prepares professional submissions to portray the city in the most favorable light to underwriters; coordinates and gathers data for renewals and audits. Participates in assigned departmental planning and process teams; works cross-functionally to improve processes and efficiencies in Risk Management. Assists other Risk Management personnel as needed. Assists in the development of the Risk Management manual and is responsible for maintenance and updates of the manual. Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes and customer-driven service. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to risk management, safety, OSHA, loss control, and workers' compensation principles. Knowledge of the principles and practices of risk identification and reduction, loss control, property, and casualty insurance. Knowledge of methods and techniques of researching, collecting, and analyzing complex data. Knowledge of liability, auto liability, self-administered and self-funded programs. Knowledge of property and casualty underwriting or claims management. Skill in gathering and analyzing complex insurance-related data. Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work. Skill in utilizing appropriate computer software. Skill in operating standard office equipment. Skill in problem-solving. Skill in oral and written communication.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Public or Business Administration, or related field is required. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three years. Experience in property and casualty underwriting or claims management. Associate in General Insurance (AINS), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwrite (CPCU) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The work is typically performed in an office, occasionally at the scene of an accident or in the field. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
