The Injection Molding Process Engineer is responsible for project management and engineering support for the injection molding department, including optimizing system performance, writing engineering and validation documents. The Injection Molding Process Engineer is tasked with providing analysis of processes and leading improvement projects through feasibility studies, process development testing, implementation, operational start-up, and training. Responsible for optimizing injection molding processes and equipment, identifying and implementing process improvements and VIP 's, as well as process validation execution using lean manufacturing techniques and other problem-solving tools. This position also provides technical guidance to engineering staff, engineering and maintenance technicians, and others as required.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with manufacturing, Quality, and other functional groups on manufacturing regulatory compliance issues.
  • Acts as a change agent to promote a "continuous supply, zero defects" culture in the injection molding department.
  • Develops or participates in the development of solutions to problems specific to injection molding.
  • Leads injection-molding-specific continuous improvement projects.
  • Continuously monitors injection molding processes; analyzes and eliminates defects. Improves injection molding processes using lean tools and statistical data analysis.
  • Study and recommend techniques to improve existing products and processes.
  • Works with toolmakers and engineers to improve mold performance and reliability.
  • Assess results for application, validity, and conformance to specifications. Recommend material and process specifications.
  • Provide leadership and drive new innovation within the plant.
  • Writes, executes, and reports on validation activities. Coordinates validation issues specific to the product design. Writes and/or executes qualification protocols for various pieces of equipment.
  • Control capital spending for assigned projects.
  • Lead project teams as needed to accomplish project objectives.
  • Initiates new and revises existing protocols / operating instructions specific to the project.
  • Participate in the selection, installation, and start-up of new injection molding equipment and systems as required.
  • Perform technical troubleshooting and implement problem resolution for existing and new equipment/systems. Maintain working relationships with vendor technical staff.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (internal and external) on projects relating to existing and new product lines.
  • Designs and performs routine testing and project experiments, analyses data, and reports results.
  • Performs engineering studies on new equipment to determine proper settings, control points, etc., including data gathering during start-up and test batches.
  • Assists with training, technical support, and/or process troubleshooting support and ensures equipment reliability in the injection molding department.
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to operating policies where appropriate.
  • (Develops manufacturing process flowcharts, including defining people and material flow issues.
  • Selects sound techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.
  • Utilizes engineering tools to solve straightforward problems (e.g., FMEA, Process Modeling, Design of Experiments, SPC, etc.).
  • Provides supervision within the department (as required).
  • Other duties as assigned.Job Requirements (Education, Experience, and Qualifications):
    • Bachelor of Science degree or above in an Engineering field required (preferred: Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree from a foreign university).
    • Ability to coordinate with different functional areas: Manufacturing, R&D, Product Development, and Quality.
    • Strong ownership of projects, with accountability for results.
    • Strong leadership and project management skills.
    • Skilled in the practice and execution of validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ or PPAP).
    • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
    • Skilled in the practice and application of Lean Manufacturing.Experience/Skills:
      • Minimum 5 years of injection molding process and tool experience.
      • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience in a regulated industry (medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.).
      • Knowledge of ISO, GMP, purchasing practices, and process/product validation. Familiarity with FDA guidelines (21CFR820) preferred,
      • Decoupled Molding experience preferred (i.e., RJG Systematic Molding, Master Molder 1 certificate, or similar).
      • Understanding of TPM and 6S. Demonstrated stop and fix mentality.
      • Demonstrated solid data analysis skills, ability to utilize TQM methods (e.g. "six sigma"). Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
      • Ability to diagnose problems and recommend solutions in assigned area.
      • Basic understanding of manufacturing protocols, statistical tools and methodology, and continuous improvement techniques preferred.
      • Demonstrated technical understanding of engineering principles and procedures.
      • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects.
      • Basic knowledge of product design and process development.
      • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in process and equipment.
      • Familiarity with computer measurement systems (CMM).
      • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, with advanced leadership skills.
      • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment.
      • Desire to continually learn to keep up with changing technology.
      • Proficient computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and CAD systems.?Physical / Safety Requirements
        • Must be able to work in an environment without daylight/windows
        • Ascends/descends ladders to access machinery
        • Lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves in excess of 50 pounds using lifting aids, techniques, or appropriate assistance
        • Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends
        • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment is required
